League of Legends Servers Down? Ping Spikes Slowing Gameplay For Some Users

“League of Legends” North American users on may be experiencing server issues and high pings.

According to this Reddit forum dedicated to LoL, some North American users are claiming they are having issues with ping spikes when connecting to servers.  Pings are a measurement of how long it takes for the game to load on from computer from the server.

Essentially, the higher the ping number, the worse the performance.

“The issue of the NA server status and the problems it has been facing are getting worse and worse,” the LoL Reddit post reads.  “When EUW had its issues, we were quick to act and remove the flooding content and direct discussion to megathreads like this.

“Much like the EUW issues we are going to be doing the same for these ongoing issues. We will try to act as quickly as possible, and we sincerely apologize that we did not act quickly enough last night, but now we’ve been able to we have this thread.

“The apparent lack of action last night was not any attempt at being biased towards one cause over the other due to the geographical location and server preference of the mod team. We have a global team playing on a variety of servers, none of which is relevant to how we treat this community. We aim to act as fairly as possible towards all issues and not favour one over another.”

While many fans have expressed their frustration, Riot Games hasn’t released an official update regarding the reported ping issues. One Reddit user is not happy with the ping rates while playing with their friends spread out through the United States, claiming anything would better than LoL current server models.

“The problem with that is, if you have friends on both coast, then you’re going to be switching from a low ping to a relatively high ping every now and then, and it’s kinda jarring,” Reddit user FYININJA wrote.  “Not saying it’s not a better solution than the current system, but it isn’t perfect.  A centrally located server would make things better for MOST people, but it’d also make things worse for others, though I think the overall quality of connection would increase substantially with something like a Chicago based server.”
LoL players also aren’t happy with Riot Games after they announced an Extra Bonus RP would be coming early January 2015.
Some commenters are upset developers would save the sale until after the New Year.  Many gamers received RP for Christmas and weren’t able to take advantage of the RP bonus below:
